Get to Know Brother Marlon
Born in 1973 to Douglas and Ercell Martin, Brother Marlon has always been known for his upbeat, friendly personality and his laugh which always causes others to laugh right along.
A member of the Higher Call World Outreach Church in Homestead for over 10 years, Brother Marlon answered the call to ministry in 1998 and has been walking to carry out his assignment in the earth. He is an Ordained Elder, and member of the presbytery, Brother Marlon has been trained under the faithful leadership of Apostle Duane E. Youngblood, Th.D. Brother Marlon is capable of bringing an in time word and depends fully on the spirit of the Lord for his every word any time he stands to share before the people of God. He is known for his teaching style, he flows in the area of Spiritual Authority, having written material for the Kingdom Realities Class he is responsible for teaching in his local church. Currently, he is working on material to help the body of Christ go to a higher level in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Brother Marlon was born and raised in church. His parents and grandparents did as the scripture says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) He was always active in the church he attended South Hills Baptist Church in Beltzhoover as a choir member, usher, and musician.
Brother Marlon has always been captivated by music, and received a well rounded education having gone to Rogers School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and the Pittsburgh High School for Creative and Performing Arts. He graduated High School from Linsly Prep School in Wheeling, WV. Brother Marlon excelled academically and as a student athlete playing football, baseball, basketball, and running track. He was also a tutor, and a member of several clubs.
Upon graduating he attended Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA. While playing football he became injured and was forced to sit out for the remainder of the season. With time on his hands a friend Donald Conley bka Biv invited him to sit in on a radio show with him at the school's radio station WXJX. The moment he walked in the studio he knew this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. And so was his love, passion and drive for radio ignited.
Although radio held his attention at W&J a former love of football began to resurface. Brother Marlon began to consider his first choice of schools Robert Morris College, who stated they would never have a football team. However, in 1993 former NFL coach Joe Walton headed to Robert Morris to coach their first football team. Brother Marlon abruptly transferred to the Moon Township campus so that he could get a chance to be apart of the team.
Prior to the beginning of the inaugural season Brother Marlon received an internship at WAMO and football was gone for good. He was very diligent about learning and meeting those who were already doing what he wanted to do. He learned from the BEST! Hurricane Dave, JJ Stone, Kris Kelly, Al B. Silk, James W., Brian Sanders, Mark Gunn, Lisa Allen, Ron Atkins, and others.
After a few months of working in a non-paid internship position Brother Marlon became a board operator, soon he was the on call board op. Anytime there was a remote he was asked to run the show. It wasn't until WAMO moved to its current location he got his shot to go live on the air! At that point he didn't have an on air name for himself. He took his middle name (TaSean) and combined it with his dad’s middle name (Richey) and he was known as Sean Richards. Brother Marlon worked his way up from overnights, to fill in, to host of the Breakfast Jam: WAMO’s morning show, along with Sly Jock and Taylor Diaz. He also worked in production at WAMO as well.
Things were going great, the show was successful and he was moving up in the ranks. It was at that point the Lord interrupted Brother Marlon's life and used his Program Director of all people to chide him concerning his relationship with the Lord. This got hi attention and he began to seek the Lord.
He found himself at the then Higher Call Church on the North Side; a Kingdom Ministry in a storefront building. Brother Marlon is thankful that he didn't allow a building to keep him from entering. Once he did he knew this was the place assigned for him. Under the direction of his pastor and spiritual father, Bishop Duane E. Youngblood, he has been connected to his ministry, his business, his wife, and his destiny.
Brother Marlon began working for WGBN about a year after leaving WAMO to pursue ministry. He knew radio, but didn’t know how to minister on the radio. WGBN was that place of development for Brother Marlon’s radio ministry. He worked there for several years and again had great success on the radio and working with the community in ministry. While there Brother Marlon was ascended to program director and host of the AM Express Morning Show. In early 2007 Brother Marlon received the call to return back to WAMO.
This time he returned as himself using his real name Brother Marlon, minister of the gospel, and focused on making a positive difference in the lives of people by using all of the gifts that God has given him. He wants to be effective by being a good leader, inspiring people to go higher in God, and by teaching the word of God."
He has been given an awesome opportunity to return to the place where he received his first professional start in radio. He grew up listening to WAMO, and back then to have an opportunity to work for the station was a dream come true. Back in 1998 he felt compelled to leave that line of work in order to pursue the call of God. It was difficult but necessary for what God had planned for his life. Eight years later (eight being the number of new beginnings) Brother Marlon returned to host the number one rated Gospel Show in Pittsburgh.
In 2006 Brother Marlon married Ellise Small of Antigua, West Indies. The two met at their church, as she attended college at Point Park University. He is the father of three, Marlon T. Martin, II (Sean), Jason T. Martin, and Ephraim D. D. Martin.
Each week he looks forward to sharing the message of Christ and His love to the listeners. To him it feels good to do that and really give people something that will add to their lives, and not have to compromise his faith. Each week he and the listeners lift up the name of Jesus and have a good time in the process! He calls it inspiration, laughter, and Praise! He's on assignment to minister to the masses, and be an effective answer in the earth!
The vision God gave him is to reach the masses in ministry through media (radio, television, Internet and print). He and his wife have a business, MarLee Media which speaks to all 4 of those areas. Over the years the Lord has allowed him to touch each of these areas being on the radio, and television (by the way that was him in the Safe Auto commercials in case you're wondering) having a design and print company he looks forward to seeing a complete manifestation of these areas that blesses lives worldwide.
